Grants
Grants provide much-needed financial resources that enable WRSC and their members the opportunity to expand our services, in the plight to rescue rehabilitate and release our native wildlife. With thanks to all grant providers, we wish to share some of our results.
Thank you NSW Wildlife Council for approving my wildlife wombat enclosure grant back in late August 2024. Finally now in Feb 2025 the enclosure is finished and the grant has paid for vital materials needed bring this project to life. It was a process to ensure it met DPI standards and was built to last for many years to come.
We began by excavating the site and laying down 10 x 10 mesh to ensure the wombats could not burrow out. This excluded a section for their underground burrow. Then we had to cover the mesh by hand over our 10m x 12m area. Next step was putting in posts and ground sleepers with concrete. Then came the construction of the frame walls to be able to enclose the area both inside and out with colorbond sheets. We then created an overhang structure for the above the ground burrow and to provide shelter and shade in addition to the trees in the enclosure. This can be fully closed in, if required in the future but does not need to be. Next step was to load in an additional 10 tonnes soil to fully cover the entire area and start grass growth. This took a few weeks to compress in the rain and offer a solid enclosure floor. Now the gates have been fitted as well as the above ground burrow and the below ground tunnel and burrow has also settled and the soil compacted. I have added water bowls, feeders, play logs and extra kennels for play. So it took 5 months but it looks great and is ready for rescue wombats pre release in the Southern Highlands. I have paid $16,139.91 in addition to the NWC grant of $5,000 (grant covered 25%) making the total cost of the project $21,139.9. With thanks, Amanda Fry Feb 2025 |
FOLIAGENATOR AND GENERATOR

Wildlife Rescue South Coast Inc and our member, Adrina Selles of Wandandian Macropod Rescue & Rehabilitation Centre (WMRRC) we wish to thank the NSW Wildlife Council (NWC) for their ongoing support. We would not have been able to purchase this equipment without receiving funding from you. These 2 items not only make our work as volunteers a little easier but also improves the quality of care and the final outcome for our macropods in care.
WMRRC is a large facility to rescue and rehabilitate wildlife specialising in Macropods. They are cared for until they are ready for release. At the moment we are caring for around 25 macropods. at this site. We offer a wide variety of foliage as part of their diet. This entails volunteers going out to collect foliage on a daily basis so the animals can be offered fresh foliage each day. The foliage will not stay fresh longer than a day even if placed in buckets of water. On hot summer days the foliage does not last longer than a day so foliage must be collected twice daily. With use of the Foliagenator foliage can be stored for up to a week being kept both cool and hydrated.
Thanks to the purchase of the Foliagenator, these macropods are now enjoying fresh, crisp, "dew"covered browse every day. Our volunteers now only need to collect browse every 4 - 5 days and there is no wastage.

We have experienced quite a few power-outs recently both planned and unplanned. We are situated in a rural area and sometimes the power outs have lasted for more than 16 hours. Being a large facility we are very dependent on power to make and store milk feeds, clean the enclosures, wash and dry linen and pouches. A "Gentech EP8000HSR (8.0KVA) Honda Generator - Recoil" would allow us to receive some power to continue to make milk feeds, refrigerate them and ensure enclosures are clean.
Thanks to the purchase of the Honda generator we are still able to continue our normal care duties during the frequent power-outs we have been experiencing.
